What is a business profile?
A business profile is a short professional document, printed or PDF, that introduces a business to customers, partners, investors or suppliers. It sums up who the business is, what it offers, who runs it and what it has achieved, usually in 4 to 16 pages with photos and simple infographics.
The term is often used interchangeably with “company profile”. In practice a business profile is the same kind of document, sometimes shorter and more sales-focused, and used by small businesses as well as large companies. For a deeper look at layouts, see our company profile templates and the company profile format guide.
What to include in a business profile
- Company overview: name, what you do, where you operate, when you started and how big you are. A few sentences, not a page.
- Mission and vision: why the business exists and where it is going.
- Products and services: what you sell and who it is for, with the main benefit of each.
- Team: the founders or key people, with photos and one-line roles.
- Track record and case studies: results, milestones, numbers and one or two short project stories.
- Clients and partners: logos, testimonials or a short client list.
- Contact details: address, phone, email, website, social accounts or a QR code.

A company profile in a business plan is the section near the start that describes the company: legal name, ownership, location, history, mission and what it sells. It is short, usually one or two pages, and the rest of the plan builds on it. The business plan templates in the first two groups below combine both: a company introduction followed by market, financial and timeline pages.
Business plan company profiles
These profiles are laid out like a short business plan. The cover says “Business Plan”, and the inner pages per the preview cover the company, business ideas, global market, financial projection and a timeline. They suit startups and small businesses that need to present the company to investors, banks or partners.

How to make a business profile
- Decide who will read it. A profile for customers sells; one for investors or tenders proves. That choice decides which sections get the most space.
- Write the overview first. Three to five sentences on what you do, for whom and what makes you different. Everything else expands on it.
- Gather the facts. Services, team photos, client logos, key numbers and one or two case studies.
- Pick a template that fits your brand. Match its colors to your logo, and choose one with pages for what you need, such as team, timeline or financial tables.
- Replace the placeholder text and photos. Keep paragraphs short and use headings, numbers and photos to carry the story.
- Add a clear contact page. Make it easy to call, email or visit your website.
- Proofread and export. Export a print PDF with bleed for the printer and a smaller PDF for email and your website.
If you need a shorter piece for events or mailings, see our company brochure templates; for a yearly results document, see our annual report templates.
Frequently asked questions
What is a business profile?
A business profile is a short document that introduces a business: what it does, who runs it, what it has achieved and how to contact it. It is used to win customers, partners and investors.
What does a business profile look like?
Most business profiles are A4 brochures of 4 to 16 pages: a cover with the logo and a strong photo, an overview or about-us page, services, team, projects or clients, and a contact page on the back. The templates above show many styles.
What is the difference between a business profile and a company profile?
Very little. Both introduce a business. “Company profile” is the more common term for established companies, while “business profile” is often used for small businesses and shorter, more sales-focused versions.
What is a company profile in a business plan?
It is the section of a business plan that describes the company: name, ownership, location, history, mission and products or services. It is usually one or two pages near the start of the plan.
How long should a business profile be?
Long enough to cover the essentials and no longer. For most businesses 8 to 12 pages works well, and every template on this page has 12 pages including the covers.
Can I edit these templates in Word or Canva?
No. They are Adobe InDesign files (INDD and IDML), so you need Adobe InDesign to edit them. A PDF is included for reference. Preview photos are not included; use your own or licensed stock photos.
