What is a postcard template?
A postcard template is a ready-made design for both sides of a postcard: a front with a headline and photo, and a back with details, contact information and space for the address and postage. You change the text, photos and colors, then print or send it to a mailing service.
A business postcard is a postcard used for marketing: to announce an offer, invite people to an event, list a property or remind customers to book. Postcards need no envelope, so the message is seen the moment the card is picked up.
Postcard sizes
The templates on this page are 6 x 4 inches (the standard 4 x 6 postcard) with a 0.25 inch bleed. Other common sizes:
| Size | Inches | Millimeters | Typical use | Templates on this page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 6 | 6 x 4 in | 152 x 102 mm | Standard postcard; the cheapest to mail | Yes, all of them |
| 5 x 7 | 7 x 5 in | 178 x 127 mm | Invitations and offers with more text | No |
| 6 x 9 | 9 x 6 in | 229 x 152 mm | Large marketing postcards and real estate mailers | No |
| A6 | 5.8 x 4.1 in | 148 x 105 mm | Standard postcard in the UK, Europe and Asia | No |
Postal rules and prices differ by country and change over time, so check the current postcard size limits with your postal service or printer before you print. To use a 6 x 4 design at another size, resize the canvas in Photoshop and adjust the layout; the layered files make that straightforward.

Postcard marketing tips
A good design is only half of a postcard campaign. These tips help a mailer get read and get a response:
- Set one goal first. Decide whether the card should win new customers, bring back old ones, fill an event or drive website visits, then write everything toward that one goal.
- Send it to the right people. Use a clean, up-to-date mailing list and remove old addresses. A card sent to someone who will never buy wastes print and postage.
- Personalize it. A recipient’s name, their neighborhood or a reference to their last purchase makes a card feel personal and gets more attention. Birthday or anniversary cards with a small offer work well.
- Include an offer. A discount, a free trial or a gift gives people a reason to act now, and a coupon code shows you which cards worked.
- Make the call to action clear. Say exactly what to do: call, scan the QR code, visit the shop or book online. Short and direct beats clever.
- Lead with a headline and one strong image. People decide in a second or two whether to read on. Use a crisp, high-contrast photo and a headline that names the benefit.
- Keep the copy short. Promote one thing per card, use plain words and bullet points, and leave out jargon.
- Mail regularly. One card is easy to forget. A series of mailings builds familiarity, and a new message each time keeps it fresh.
- Don’t only sell. Mix in useful tips, thank-you cards or event invitations so customers look forward to your mail.
- Make contact details easy to find. Logo, phone, website and QR code in one clear spot, not repeated all over the card.
Postcard design tips
- Front sells, back explains. Put the photo and headline on the front, and the details, offer terms and contact information on the back.
- Leave space for the address and postage. Keep the right half of the back clear if the card goes through the mail.
- Mind bleed and safe area. Extend backgrounds into the 0.25 inch bleed and keep text well inside the trim.
- Use your brand colors. Change the template colors to match your logo so the card matches your other marketing.
- Print a test. Colors on screen are brighter than on paper; check a printed proof before a large run.
